Alcan Packaging Honored as Nominee for Manufacturer of the Year
Peachtree City Mayor Harold Logsdon, Chris Turk and Jeff Schilly, Alcan Packaging, and Fayette County Commissioner Jack Smith
GRIFFIN, GA – July 29, 2008 – Peachtree City company Alcan Packaging was one of only seven companies honored for being nominated Manufacturer of the Year at a ceremony held at Griffin Technical College.
Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle joined the college’s leadership to acknowledge their nominees for Manufacturer of the Year. “We lead the nation in workforce development, primarily because of technical colleges that exist,” he said.
Other companies presented with a plaque were Bridgestone Bandag of Griffin, the Griffin plant of Georgia Industries for the Blind, Perkins Shibaura Engines of Griffin, PermaTherm of Monticello, Continental Tire/Adora Plant of Barnesville, Toppan Interamerica of McDonough, and Caterpillar Diversified Power Products of Griffin. Alcan Packaging was the sole nominee from Fayette County.
“We’re proud of Alcan because they are very deserving of this nomination,” said Randy Hayes, Chairman of the Fayette County Development Authority. “We congratulate them on this achievement and know they will continue to thrive in Fayette County.”
Alcan Packaging is a world leader in specialty packaging serving the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and medical, and beauty and tobacco markets. With 30,000 people and 129 sites in 31 countries, they are present in the five continents. Peachtree City is home to one of their packaging manufacturing facilities.
