John

A native Georgian, he graduated from Tallapoosa High School and West Georgia College. He married Jean Creel in August 1964 and of this date celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. They have three children and one grandson.

John retired from Lockheed Martin Aerospace Company in April 1997, with 42 years of service. During the last 10 years at Lockheed, he was a Program Controller in the Master Scheduling organization supervising eight professional schedulers. During his career with Lockheed, he was active with the Lockheed chapter of the National Management Association, serving in many leadership roles including Vice President of Professional Development, Vice President of Administration, and Chairman of the Board. While at Lockheed he earned the Certified Manager designation from James Madison University’s Institute of Certified Professional Managers.

In 1958 John took a military leave from Lockheed and joined the United States Army. Following basic training, during which time he was appointed as a recruit team leader and also won the expert rifleman’s shooting classification, he was assigned to the Army Air Defense Command and was stationed at a Nike-Ajax missile site in Connecticut. While there, he advanced to the rank of Crew Chief and was honorably discharged in 1961 and returned to Lockheed.

John has had an active life in the Masons, the Shrine, and South Fulton Shrine Club. He became a mason in 1969 and joined Yarrab Shrine and South Fulton Shrine Club in 1969. In 1970, he helped form the South Fulton Buffoons. He served as president of the South Fulton Shrine Club in 1980 having progressed through the various vice president positions. He was later elected president of the Buffoons on two occasions. John has served as the Chaplain for South Fulton for over 25 years. He previously served five years as Chaplain of Yaarab Shrine and has been appointed Chaplain Emeritus.

John has been very active in his community. He served as a volunteer during the 1996 Olympics and worked in Security. He is on the board of the Fayette County Development Authority representing the town of Tyrone. He is a charter member of the Fayette Community Hospital Auxiliary and has been a member of that Board for several years. He was elected President for the term 2003-2004. He also was the Northwest District of the state Council of Volunteers/Auxiliaries (COA/V) Nominating Committee Representative for two years. He was elected to the state board as a Northwest District Director in 2004 and reelected in 2005. He has also served as Vice President of Membership for COA/V.

John is a member of McDonough Road Baptist Church in Fayetteville, formally Second Baptist of College Park, and has been a member since 1971. John was ordained a Deacon in 1996 and has served three three-year terms as an active deacon and was elected Vice- Chairman of the Deacons two times. He also served as Chairman of the Finance Committee on two separate occasions. In 1996, he participated in a mission trip to Burkina Faso, Africa where he worked with children.

He enjoys a little golf, reading and international traveling with Jean.
